Why Your Meta Ads Get Clicks but Not Registrations (and How Clubs Fix It)

The short answer

When a club's Meta ads get clicks but no registrations, the problem is almost always after the click: a page that doesn't match the ad, a weak offer, the wrong timing or slow follow-up. Fix those before you change the targeting or spend more.

Clicks are cheap. Registrations are the result. So that's what we'll measure.

Why do sports club ads get clicks but no registrations?

Because something breaks between the ad and the form. A parent sees a great reel, taps through and lands on a homepage, a PDF or a page with no price. Or they fill in a form and nobody calls back for days. The ad did its job. The rest of the journey didn't.

Check these five, in this order:

  1. The page after the click.
  2. The offer on that page.
  3. The timing of the campaign.
  4. The follow-up after the form.
  5. The ad and audience, last.

Does the page match the ad?

It should be the exact program the ad promised. If the ad is about a spring break camp for 8 to 12 year olds, the page should open with that camp, its dates, its price and one form, not your club's history. Every extra click or scroll loses parents. One program, one page.

What the page needs:

  • The program, age group, dates and location above the fold.
  • The price and what's included.
  • A short video from a real session.
  • Two parent reviews.
  • One form or one registration link, repeated down the page.
  • Fast loading on a phone, because that's where parents tap from.

Is the offer strong enough?

"Contact us" isn't an offer. Parents need a reason to act now: an early-bird price with a date, a free trial session, limited spots that really are limited, or a clear outcome for their kid. The offer has to feel worth more than the effort of filling in the form.

Offers that work for clubs and academies:

  1. Early bird with a real deadline.
  2. Free trial session or open training.
  3. Sibling or bring-a-friend offer.
  4. Founding member spots for a new program.

Are the ads running at the right time?

Ads that start when registration opens are already late. Families plan ahead, so run each campaign 6 to 10 weeks before the window, with the biggest push in the last three weeks before the deadline. Late ads get clicks from people who've already registered somewhere else.

Our youth sports registration calendar shows when each season is usually sold, with real dates.

What happens after the form?

This is usually the real leak. Leads come in and nobody follows up, and that's usually the problem, not the ad spend. A parent who asks a question on Monday and hears back on Friday has already registered somewhere else. Reply within the hour if you can.

A follow-up that works:

  1. Instantly: an automatic email and text with the details and the registration link.
  2. Same day: a real person answers the question.
  3. Day 2: an invite to a trial or tour.
  4. Before the deadline: one reminder with the date.

Are you measuring the right thing?

Cost per click is the most flattering number in Ads Manager and the least useful. Track inquiries, registrations and cost per registration instead, and give each campaign its own page or link so you know which one worked. If the cost per registration is less than a registration is worth, the ads are working, whatever the click rate says.

For a real example: our work with BC Prep brought in 400 leads in 6 months at under $7 a lead. The ads used content that families were already watching, and every ad pointed at one program page.

Questions

Questions, answered

Why are my Facebook ads getting clicks but no registrations?

Usually because of what happens after the click: a page that doesn't match the ad, a weak offer, ads that started too late, or slow follow-up on inquiries.

What should a sports club landing page include?

The program, age group, dates, location and price at the top, a short video, two parent reviews and one form, all fast on a phone.

When should a club start running Meta ads for registration?

Six to ten weeks before registration opens, with the biggest push in the last three weeks before the deadline.

What should a club measure instead of clicks?

Inquiries, registrations and cost per registration, with each campaign pointing at its own page so you know which one worked.
